Business Challenges

Approximately two decades ago, at the onset of our collaboration, New Wave Engineering's primary client was using the I-DEAS software solution. The importance of seamless communication and file exchange made compatibility with this software a critical factor. To enhance their service to this key client, New Wave Engineering searched for a comparable software package that promised potential for future expansion.

Furthermore, it was essential that this new software not only catered to the needs of this specific client but was also versatile enough to benefit other existing and potential clients of New Wave Engineering. This requirement was particularly significant as their client base extended beyond just the automotive sector, encompassing a broader range of industries.

Keys to Success

For New Wave Engineering, the digital exchange of information grew in importance, paralleled by increased product complexity. The clientele's expectations for speed and quality were also escalating. To address these challenges, New Wave Engineering invested in a 5-axis machine capable of handling complex tasks. However, this advanced machinery required specific software to leverage its capabilities fully, as manual programming became insufficient. Efficient service and support during the transition to new software became critical for the potential PLM partner. Avoiding future limitations was also a key consideration.

We assisted New Wave Engineering in transitioning from I-DEAS to NX™, including implementing both CAD and CAM and providing training for its future users. An additional module was implemented to verify the production process automatically. This allowed engineers to simulate the milling process, analysing the functionality of their designs. NX™ CAM’s virtual verification capabilities minimised error risks and enabled New Wave Engineering to run automated night production confidently. NX™ CAD and CAM swiftly became indispensable tools within the organisation, with machine control integrated into the software, facilitating seamless collaboration between the engineering and production departments. The capabilities of both departments expanded significantly. Recognising the scarcity of skilled labour, New Wave Engineering invested heavily in employee training. NX™ allowed for storing crucial data in knowledge libraries, like optimal feed and cutting speeds per material.

This information could be easily transferred throughout the organisation, simplifying the learning process and enhancing production quality. Furthermore, our specialists continued to support New Wave Engineering’s team through training sessions, contact days, and user groups, ensuring they remained up-to-date with the latest advancements and best practices.
